Maritime Center Launch Party Set for January 15

Dec 8th, 2003

Mobile's 2004 “return” to her historic waterfront begins with a celebration of the upcoming signature attraction within the city's Mobile Landing project. The public is invited to come and glimpse the future Thursday, January 15th, 2004, from 5:30 – 7pm at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center for the official "Launch" of the Maritime Center at Mobile Landing.

The Maritime Center Launch Party will give residents from both sides of the Bay a chance to preview what the Center will be like before it's even built. The Launch Party will debut a short film by renowned videographer and Mobile native, Mike DeGruy, on Mobile Landing, its relationship to our bay area maritime heritage and through them, our connections to the world.

The Maritime Center at Mobile Landing will house a regional visitors mall featuring interactive information systems with state-of-the-art audiovisual presentations on Mobile and Baldwin Counties; an integral passenger ferry terminal to the visitors mall; and, a hi-tech, entertainment and education-oriented maritime heritage museum, all under one roof. The project is funded through federal and private dollars. Plans call for the construction of the Maritime Center to begin in spring 2004, with the goal of a Christmas 2005 opening.
