Major Intersection Getting a Facelift with the Installation of New Pedestrian Crosswalks

Jun 24th, 2009

The intersection of Old Shell Road at McGregor Avenue, the heart of the business center in the Spring Hill community, will close at various locations on different dates and times to allow city officials to install pedestrian crosswalks. (All phases of the project could change due to weather conditions.)

As one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, city officials stress that all businesses near the intersection will remain open throughout the project phases, which are designed to improve conditions for pedestrian traffic. Please note the attached map of the project location and the tentative schedule below:

Location of Closure

Old Shell Road at the west side of the intersection near the CVS Pharmacy; closed to through traffic

McGregor Avenue at the north side of the intersection near Compass Bank and Exxon Station; closed to through traffic

The south side of the intersection on McGregor Avenue near CVS Pharmacy and BankTrust; closed to through traffic

The east side of Old Shell Road near BankTrust and Compass banks; closed to through traffic

Date/Time of Closure

Friday, June 26th at 7:00 p.m. through Monday June 29th;

Tuesday, June 30th through Thursday July 2nd;

Tuesday, July 7th through Thursday, July 9th;

Friday, July 10th through Monday, July 13th.

City officials expect traffic delays, so motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. The crosswalk improvements are a part of the overall plan by the “Village of Spring Hill,” whose mission is to make the neighborhood more pedestrian friendly, and improve aesthetic and commercial amenities in the area.
