LOCATION CHANGED FOR UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE'S "STARLIGHT" MUSIC FESTIVAL

Apr 6th, 2005

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile's third annual "StarLight" music festival, scheduled for April 12, has been moved to Dauphin Way Baptist Church. The free music festival featuring award-winning Christian music artists 4Him and Alicia Williamson Garcia, along with performances by more than 100 UM students, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The event originally was scheduled to be held outdoors on the University of Mobile campus, but school officials made the decision to move the festival indoors due to weather forecasts for rain during the early part of the week.

StarLight will also feature performances by the Duncan McCall Pipe Band from Pensacola and UMS-Wright Preparatory School's choir, Adagio.

Roger Breland, director of UM's Center for Performing Arts, said students are putting the finishing touches on performances ranging from theatre and opera to barbershop quartet and drum and bugle corps.

"It will be a great evening, with a few surprises," Breland said.

Dauphin Way Baptist Church is located at Dauphin Street and I-65. The event is free, and donations will be accepted during the performance. Over the past two years, more than 5,000 people have attended StarLight.

UM groups performing include: University Singers, Voices of Mobile, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Sounds of Mobile, RamTonz Barbershop Quartet, Beautyshop Quartet, Opera Workshop, RamCorps, Upper Room Dinner Theatre, and Alicia Williamson Garcia and Impact.
