Leap Into Summer Safety community health event at USA Children's Park

Apr 19th, 2004

MOBILE - Summer will soon be here, and that means summer fun for children! It can also mean summer accidents and illnesses, many of them preventable, and that's why USA Children's & Women's Hospital is presenting "Leap Into Summer Safety" from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, in the USA Children's Park on Springhill Avenue in midtown Mobile.

USA Children's & Women's Hospital has the region's only pediatric intensive care unit, Mobile's only board-certified pediatric critical care physicians and the area's only transport service just for critically ill or injured children.

A free event for the whole family, "Leap Into Summer Safety" will feature fun activities for children and helpful information for adults, including information on women's health issues presented by USA's department of obstetrics and gynecology.

The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will demonstrate fire safety, the Mobile Police Department will provide fingerprinting for children, and the marine police will be on hand to discuss water safety. There will be face painting, the "Sunshine Patrol" clowns and a special appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog.

Representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Mobile, the Alabama Department of Public Health ALLKids health insurance program, the Residents Alliance of the USA Health System, and the "Director of Happiness" from the Springhill Dental Health Center will also attend.

USA Children's Park, at the entrance to USA Children's & Women's Hospital, has received regional recognition for its natural beauty and the park's more than 40 life-size bronze sculptures relating to children. Located on Springhill Avenue between Louiselle and Catherine streets in midtown Mobile, USA Children's Park is open to the public for self-guided tours.
