Kudos to the GIS Dept

The City of Mobile's GIS Department has been selected to participate in the Census Bureau's web-based pilot project to update the Census base map electronically rather than update their map using marked up paper maps. Part of the reason for including Mobile's GIS Department among the ten pilot cities is Mobile participated in the Open GIS Consortium test bed project two years ago, which was a huge success. Another reason is Mobile has an interactive mapping web presence and the City has shown an interest in working with the Open GIA Consortium on the development of GIS data sharing policies and practices.
