Dec 9th, 2010

Mobile’s Christmas & Holiday Parade is poised to once again bring the holiday season to the streets of downtown Mobile on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. As with year’s past, the 2010 parade will feature high school marching bands, colorful holiday floats, giant balloons and, of course, Santa Claus!

Mobile’s Christmas & Holiday Parade is presented by BAE Systems and the parade will feature floats and balloons sponsored by the city of Mobile and local companies including wellbornIdeas, Austal USA, Fox 10 TV, USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital, Hampton Inn Downtown, Jim Barnes Enterprises, McDonalds, BayFest and the Mobile Bay Tarpons. The parade will also feature holiday music from the Murphy, Davidson, and Alma Bryant High School marching bands, as well as the James Seals Community Band and the Thomas Sullivan Band. Other groups that participate in the parade include the Azalea Trail Maids, the Mobile International Festival, and the Shrine Street Camels. The holiday procession will also include antique vehicles, area school children, dance units, and furry, adoptable pets presented by the SPCA.

As an accompaniment to the Christmas & Holiday Parade, Christmas Kid’s Day in Bienville will run between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Bienville Square, with free fun activities such as face painting, karaoke, balloon clowns, and crafts such as ornaments and jingle bell necklaces. And a new addition to the day’s events is a special Holiday Market on the Square from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Cathedral Square. The market will feature fresh fruits, veggies, breads, and pastas perfect for holiday parties along with hand-crafted gifts from local artisans and craftsmen.

The parade will start at Mobile Civic Center on Claiborne Street, taking a right on Government Street, a left on Royal Street, a left on Dauphin Street and finally a left on Claiborne Street to finish back at the Civic Center. Downtown streets on the parade route will be closed at 12:30 p.m. and all vehicles parked along the parade route should be moved two hours prior to the parade start. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be presented on Sunday, December 19, at 2:00 p.m. Please visit our new website at www.mobileholidayparade.com for more information and much more!
