Homeless Coalition of the Gulf Coast in Need of Volunteers for Annual Point in Time Survey

Jan 6th, 2005

Mobile, Ala., Jan.  6  - The Homeless Coalition of the Gulf Coast is preparing for the Annual Point in Time Survey scheduled for Tuesday, January 25th, 2005.  Volunteers are needed that night beginning at 5 p.m. to meet at 15 Place located at 15 Joachim Street.

Volunteers are trained on interviewing individuals and completing a short form.  Teams are then sent out on the street to perform the count.  Training for volunteers and the actual count will take approximately six hours.

"This truly is a humbling and amazing experience that makes a difference in our community. The information we gather on this night is used to identify needs in Mobile and assists us in applying for federal funds.  Our efforts throughout the year help ensure that those without a voice are heard," stated Sherry Atchison, event captain for the downtown on-the-street team.

Volunteers interested in participating can email Sherry at sheria@voase.org or call 251-666-4431.  If a volunteer is not comfortable in going out on the street to count a position will be found for them at a shelter to do interviews.
