Here We Grow Again

Jun 25th, 2004

New businesses are continuing to open in the Mobile area adding to the city's economic strength. Ono's Trading Company is one of the most recent to hang an "Open For Business" sign on the door.

Ono's is a specialty sunglass industry, offering high quality polarized sunglasses with readers built-in for people who want to wear sunglasses but need a little extra help seeing things close up. The glasses utilize a patent pending lens technology designed to give the consumer a full range of vision for outdoor activities. In addition to providing a small area of magnification for close up viewing, the glasses provide 100 percent UV/UVB protection as well.

The idea for Ono's Trading Company originated when a fisherman broke his line while reeling in a five-foot Wahoo, also known as an Ono. The fisherman struggled to tie a new knot in his line and realized he couldn't see it. He removed his sunglasses and reached for his reading glasses. The fisherman decided he could either wear his sunglasses to cut down on the glare or his readers to see his line. So, he decided to purchase polarized readers, but discovered no high quality polarized were available. That's what prompted the development of the new company.

Ono's Trading company was founded in 2003 in Mobile. You can check out their website at www.onostradingcompany.com or visit local retail stores including McCoy Outdoor Company, Ward's Sporting Goods, Quint's Hardware & Sporting Goods, G. Harvell, Inc. and Metzger's to see the selection and strengths that are available.

With the right pair of glasses, the next time you go fishing, maybe the "big one" won't get away!
