Halloween Safety

Oct 31st, 2003

Halloween can be an exciting time for children. In the midst of all the excitement, it is important not to forget how to be careful. Parents should supervise their children and check all the treats before allowing their children to consume the goodies. The Mobile Police Department suggests the following safety tips and wishes everyone a safe Halloween.

1. Young children should always go trick-or-treating with an adult.
2. Never trick-or-treat alone. Have at least 2 buddies go with you.
3. Plan your entire route and make sure your family knows what it is.
4. Wait until you get home and your parents check your candy before you eat it.
5. Be very cautious of animals and strangers.
6. Accept treats only in the doorway. Never go inside any house.
7. Use face paint rather than masks or items that will cover the eyes.
8. Don't play near lit jack-o-lanterns. Costumes can be extremely
flammable.
9. Visit only houses where the lights are on.
10. Walk, do not run.
11. Walk on sidewalks, not in the street.
12. Cross the street at the corner or in a crosswalk.
13. Carry a flashlight.
