Gulf Coast Classic Calendar of Events
Nov 6th, 2009
The Gulf Coast Classic has been a part of Mobile's heritage for the past 35 years. However, last year marked a new beginning for the Classic. With long-term commitments from both universities, the Classic will feature Alabama State and Southern University for the next several years. The new "change" was brought about to bring stability and consistency to one of the premier HBCU college football contests in the country.
Two weeks before the Classic game... that may well transform Mobile's economy and change the cultural fabric of the city; Alumni of Alabama State University, Southern University and Community Volunteers from Sororities, Fraternities and Community organizations of the Commonwealth National Bank Gulf Coast Classic, officially opened the "Mission Possible" office to rally the League of 40,000 supporters.
Dubbed "Mission Possible" the office located at 1616 Government Street at the corner of Monterey St., between Domino's Pizza and World Gym serves as a 'home-base' for anyone in Mobile and southern Alabama who wants to purchase tickets or join our efforts to fill the stadium, Bacon said.
Amelia Bacon, the new Executive Director of the Classic announced that the Senior Bowl, the Mobile Chamber of Commerce, the Mobile County Commissioners and the City of Mobile have all thrown their full support behind the game and is asking their members, their family and friends to join the League of 40,000 on game day, November 14th to fill the stadium with an intergenerational diverse group of progressive Mobilians. This league of 40,000 will be made up of our artists, corporate professionals, college professors, entrepreneurs, school teachers, students, labors, "stay at home moms", physicians, nurses and lawyers and will look like the United Nation-Mobile style. The enthusiasm among this diverse group of every age is contagious.
