Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail and upcoming improvements to the Mobile Japanese Garden.
This $1.7 million investment will add a ¾ mile segment to the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail.
As part of a complementary project happening at the same time, the city will also be rebuilding the parking lot at Mobile Japanese Garden. Together, these projects will make needed accessibility improvements to the parking facilities and the trailhead at the Mobile Japanese Garden.
This latest segment of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail will build out the most westward point on the trail. It is being funded through a grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The improvements to the parking facilities at Mobile Japanese Garden are being funded through the City of Mobile's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) with support from City Council Vice President Gina Gregory.
Construction will begin later this month and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2025.
To accommodate these projects, the Mobile Japanese Garden will be closed to the public beginning December 30 and remain closed for approximately six months. Staff will have continued access, with some parking adjustments. Construction will proceed with minimal disruption to surrounding areas.
Members of the media are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for these upcoming improvement projects, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Monday, December 16, at the Mobile Japanese Garden. About the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail
The Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail is a nearly 7-mile network connecting the City of Mobile along the path of Three Mile Creek. Once completed, it will give thousands of citizens greater access to Three Mile Creek and help connect multiple neighborhoods, parks and other public amenities.
This multi-phase project is a key component of the Mobile Greenway Initiative, an 18-mile system of interconnected parks, trails, and complete street projects with assets designed for pedestrians and cyclists. More information about the project is available at mapformobile.org/3mctrail.
