Go Red for Women... on National Wear Red Day!

Feb 2nd, 2006

We have a long way to go in the fight against the No. 1 killer of women- heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular disease, but the good news is that heart disease is often preventable. Go Red for Women is a nationwide movement celebrating the energy, passion and power we have to band together and wipe out heart disease. Spreading the Go Red for Women message empowers women to love-and save-their hearts through a lifestyle of choices and actions.

National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 3, 2006. On this day, millions of Americans will wear red to show their support for women and the fight against heart disease. Wear your favorite red clothes or accessory- a red blouse, red tie or red shoes- and help the American Heart Association raise awareness of heart disease and inspire women to take charge of their heart health. The Mobile area is also having a Go Red For Women Awareness luncheon on Friday, February 3. Ann Bedsole is the Chair for this event which will feature speaker's talking about women's heart health, a silent auction, fashion show by Parisians and a wine tasting by Azalea City Wine. AIG American General and Team Mobile are the presenting sponsors. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and the event begins at 8:00 a.m. and will be over at 1:00 p.m. Everyone who donates $50.00 for a ticket will receive a fabulous red bag of goodies! If you cannot stay for the entire session, please come when you can. Please call (251) 461-4000 for more information.

The entire month of February is "Go Red". If your company would like to help raise money for the AHA and raise awareness, please call the local AHA office to purchase red dress pins, red bracelets and t-shirts for your office's "red day".

Join the movement by wearing red on February 3rd and encourage others to do the same. Stay tuned for news from our nation's capital about upcoming efforts to improve the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and stroke in women.

So get involved. Go Red for Women. It's a simple, powerful way to improve women's heart health. For more information, visit www.goredforwomen.org or call the American Heart Association at (251) 461-4000.
