Garbage Collection Letter from Mayor Dow

Jan 15th, 2004

Dear Mobile Residents:

We are pleased to inform you about a new program that will soon come to your neighborhoods when the Public Works department implements an improved system for the collection of garbage. The new program will automate garbage collection. It will keep our neighborhoods neater, provide safer working conditions for our employees, improve efficiency and save money.

The automated collection program will be phased in beginning next spring. A new wheeled garbage cart with an instruction pamphlet will be delivered to your homes shortly before the program starts in your neighborhood. Your weekly garbage will be required to be placed in this cart. The standard size garbage cart is 96 gallons and is capable of holding a week’s work of residential garbage. For those residents and households who generate less weekly garbage, a smaller 64-gallon container is available.

Request for a smaller-sized cart may be made between January 5, 2004 and February 5, 2004 by registering at either of the following locations: Government Plaza at the 3rd floor Engineering counter or the Public Works office at 770 Gayle Street. Postcards maybe sent in selecting a cart size after viewing carts at the locations indicated below. Send cards to:
