Fry Park's Restored Basketball Court is a Slam Dunk

Mobile, Ala.-- The City of Mobile is transforming the degraded basketball court at Fry Park into an all-star court. Basketball players will no longer have to dribble over cracks and can finally play on a newly paved surface. Athletes can also expect new backboards and newly painted steel posts. The rims will also be replaced for those who need to practice their slam dunks.

"This is just one example of our dedication to provide our most vulnerable youth access to safe, recreational opportunities--especially with summer around the corner," said Mayor Stimpson. "In order to connect communities throughout the City of Mobile, we must ensure that our parks, which are the hearts of our neighborhoods, meet the expectations and needs of Mobilians. These park renovations will help transform Fry Park into a gathering place for our citizens."

The area around the court will also be renewed with a new fence, two new walkways and a new green space.

"An investment in our parks is an investment in our community," said Councilman C.J. Small. "This is why I'm so excited about these major upgrades and making sure the Parks in District 3 are the best they can be."

In addition to the basketball court restorations, the baseball backstop will be replaced and two rest stops will be added complete with benches and trash receptacles. At the playground entrance, the City will install an ADA accessible drinking fountain and an ADA accessible concrete ramp, so every child can enjoy the park.

"To truly realize One Mobile, we must ensure our entire city is accessible to every citizen," said Mayor Stimpson. "These changes are a testament to our commitment to full accessibility allowing everyone living and visiting Mobile to experience Fry Park."
