Fridays @ 5 Kicks Off This Friday

Mar 13th, 2008

Fridays @ 5, a new program of the city’s Neighborhood & Community Services Department, will help to kick off the weekend with an after-work street party that includes musical entertainment along Dauphin Street from Royal to Claiborne Streets on the second Fridays of the next three months. Friday, March 14th, beginning at 5 p.m., we invite workers from downtown as well as citizens from all over the area to come and stroll Dauphin Street and hear the sounds of jazz, rock, blues, R & B, Motown and much more. The event functions as an added bonus to the LoDa ArtWalk, downtown Mobile’s monthly gallery hop.

Musicians will be playing both on street corners as well as in Bienville and Cathedral Squares. March’s line up is as follows: Royal & Dauphin Sts: Theodore Arthur and Rising Still Rising; in Bienville Square: Hotwire; at Dauphin & Joachim: Lisa Zanghi and Brett LaGrave; and in Cathedral Square will be Chronic Blues.

As always, there will be new shows at participating venues including the Mobile Arts Council and Space 301 Off Centre. At the Mobile Arts Council, there will be an opening reception for its new show titled More Than Music and Jack and Jill’s Work. There will alsp be two exhibitions: a tribute to Mobile Opera’s departing artistic director Jerome Shannon (the last decade of the company’s productions captured by Mobile Press-Register photographers) and works by students of Kathie Stabler at Cottage Hill Christian Academy. The LoDa ArtWalk also welcomes new venues Serda’s Coffee, Bacchus and the St. Louis Lofts to our monthly line-up.

The event is family friendly and free. The LoDa ArtWalk is a public initiative of the City of Mobile’s Neighborhood and Community Services. For further information, please contact Chris Barraza at (251) 208-7443.
