Aug 2nd, 2017

Mobile, Ala. -- The Third Annual Mayor's Cup will bring together our first responders and youth in head to head games in softball, basketball, football, soccer and more.

Taking place on Saturday, August 5th at Sage Park, the event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with the opening ceremony.

More than 300 children are expected to compete in a variety of youth team activities including a football jamboree for ages 5 to 9 and soccer games for ages 5 to 18-- all starting at 9 am. On the basketball court, there will be live demonstrations of Mobile's newest phenomenon pickleball from 9 to 11 am followed by a basketball skills competition at 11:30. Individuals can also compete in Frisbee, table tennis and other lawn games.

Members of the City's athletic programs and summer camps will also join teams made up of firefighters (Team Red) and police officers (Team Blue) in a friendly game of softball at 10 am. Onlookers will enjoy halftime performances from the therapeutic marching band and line dancing from the senior participants.

"I am extremely excited to welcome back the Mayor's Cup this year," said Mayor Stimpson. "This event brings together our youth and first responders for a day of sports and fun that teaches our young people the important values of teamwork and sportsmanship. May the best man or woman win!"

Although there is a large emphasis on youth activities, senior citizens are also welcomed to take part in chess, checkers, dominoes and other board games.

"I look forward to seeing the local community come together for a fun day outdoors and enjoy one of our beautiful parks in the City of Mobile," continued Mayor Stimpson.

There will also be food vendors, live music, free food for all participants, games and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
