Exciting Announcements from Mobile Works

Aug 9th, 2012

Mobile Works recently announced that it has partnered with Tri-Nova, Volunteers of America and Bishop State to provide short-term skills training for laid-off workers. An investment of $764,000 in federal funds will pay for training programs in industrial automation instrumentation, nursing assisting, welding and direct support professionals. Those who lost their job due to company closure, downsizing, were self-employed or a displaced homemaker are eligible for this program. “This training could be a new start for those unemployed and wanting to position themselves to compete for jobs in Mobile County,” said Sydney Raine, Mobile Works president.

Also, a Training Fair will be held this Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Alabama Career Center located at 515 Springhill Plaza Court for job seekers to learn more about the new training programs. Representatives from Trinova, Bishop State Community College and Volunteers of America will be on hand to share the advantages of entering these programs.

Finally, Mobile Works and the Alabama Aviation Center of Mobile recently announced the availability of skills training scholarships up to $10,000 for job seekers to become an airplane and powerplant technician (airplane mechanic) or an avionics technician. “With Mobile’s unemployment rate hovering around ten percent now is the perfect time to make the commitment to get the training at the Aviation Center of Mobile to compete for jobs in the growing aerospace industry,” states Sydney Raine, Mobile Works president. “Mobile Works is committed to helping people who have been laid off or wanting to advance their careers.”

According to Aviation Center of Mobile’s campus director, David Mosow, PhD, this training is critical to meeting the increasing demand for workers in the aerospace industry. Interested individuals can take day or evening classes at the Aviation Center of Mobile located at Brookley Field. This program is the only comprehensive aviation maintenance training program in the state of Alabama and students in the program receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification as an airplane mechanic, with associate's degrees in either airframe or powerplant engine (A&P) or an avionics (airplane electronics) curriculum.

“Individuals who pursue this training can become certified aircraft mechanics or an avionics technician within a couple of years and make upwards of $50, 000 per year,” Mosow said. Also, individuals can be eligible for employment with supporting Airbus suppliers and other industries, Mosow said. “The opportunities are endless.”
