Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Set for Friday

Mobile will mark the beginning of the holiday season Friday with the annual tree lighting ceremony at Bienville Square.

Activities in the square will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m.

Mayor and Mrs. Mike Dow will join Santa Claus to light Mobile's official Christmas tree and the live oaks in the square at 6:15 p.m.

Choirs will sing carols, and children's activities and a holiday market will be available.

The event will be free and open to the public.

In conjunction with the festivities in the square, downtown merchants will sponsor their Merchant Stroll and Open House.

Following the lighting of the trees, the Saenger Theatre will be showing the holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol," at 7:30 p.m.
