Dianne Irby named Executive Director of Planning and Development

MOBILE, Ala. - Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson today announces the appointment of Dianne K. Irby as Executive Director of Planning and Development for the City of Mobile.

Irby is a distinguished member of the Mobile business community with an outstanding reputation for leadership, integrity and public service. She comes to the city from KBR Inc., where she currently serves as the Water Market and the Facilities Market Director for KBR's Infrastructure Unit.

"Dianne is a proven leader who brings world-class management and organizational skills to city government," said Mayor Stimpson. "She will be a dynamic addition to our team and an incredible resource for our citizens as we continue our mission to make Mobile the safest, most business and family-friendly city in America by 2020."

In her newly created position, Irby will oversee the departments of Urban Development; Community Planning and Development; Historical Development; Municipal Enforcement; Environmental Services and Real Estate and Asset Management.

She will start in the new job on January 31.

Irby is a longtime resident of Mobile with more than 30 years of experience with business acquisition and operations in both the public and private sectors. In 2000, she became the first woman to serve as chair of the board of directors of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce.

"Mobile is poised for incredible growth in the next few years and I am excited to be working with Mayor Stimpson to help us realize our true potential," Irby said. "I am humbled to join the outstanding team he is assembling in city government and look forward to the great things we will accomplish together."

Irby is in her second stint as an executive with KBR, a global engineering and construction services firm based in Houston. Irby served as a vice president for the company's predecessor, Brown & Root Inc., from 1978-1996, before leaving to serve as principal for Irby Strategic Services, a management consulting firm based in Mobile.

Irby served as executive director of the United Way of Southwest Alabama from 2002-2004, returning to KBR in 2004.

Irby received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English from Auburn University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Scholastic Honor Society, and attended Rice University's Advance Management Program.

She is a graduate of Leadership Alabama and received the Trailblazer Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners in 2000.

Irby and her husband reside in Mobile and are the proud parents of two children.
