Councilman Williams Pays Tribute to BayBear Batboy

Jul 17th, 2012

Councilman John Williams, whose district includes Hank Aaron Stadium, paid tribute to someone who has been to more games there than almost anyone else.

Wade Vadakin will celebrate his 1,000th game with the BayBears as their “Director of On-Deck-Circle Operations.” Councilman Williams presented Wade with a proclamation naming July 21, 2012 as Wade Wade-O Vadakin Day.

The wording for the proclamation is as follows:

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade Vadakin, the BayBears Director of On-Deck-Circle Operations, will celebrate his 1000th game as BatBoy with the Mobile Bay Bears on Saturday, July 21, 2012; and,

WHEREAS, he is affectionately known as “Wade-O” to the BayBears family of fans and players, and is a transplanted Texan, who joined the team in 1998 as a BatBoy. He has also performed duties in other stadiums around the league during his 15-year career including the Southern League Championship Series in Severville, TN and has been promoted to the San Diego Padres on several occasions. He also is the proud holder of three championship rings; and,

WHEREAS, Wade enjoys movies, sports, and all things that relate to Texas or to Auburn University. His Texas heritage is apparent when he “Rides the Bull” after the BayBears score, and he can be seen during batting practice shagging home run balls on BayBears Mountain. Wade wants the players to enjoy the game and makes every effort to do whatever is needed to help out and make everyone happy.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, John C. Williams, Council Member of District 4, along with the Mayor and members of the Mobile City Council, do hereby proclaim, Saturday, July 21, 2012, as

“WADE (Wade-O) VADAKIN DAY”

in Mobile, and urge all our citizens to join with their family and friends in honoring Wade on this momentous occasion.
