Councilman Richardson Receives Downtown Award

Councilman Fred Richardson has been selected by Main Street Mobile, Downtown Mobile District Management Corporation and Downtown Mobile Alliance, to receive the Outstanding Individual Award this year. He accepted the award on behalf of the 29,000 citizens of District 1, the 15,000+ citizens who braved below freezing temperatures and chilling wind to witness the inaugural Moon Pie Rising event in Mobile; and indeed every citizen of the City of Mobile.

"I recognize that the 'extraordinary contributions to Downtown Mobile,' were in direct reference to the preemptive Moon Pie Rising Event that took place last New Year’s Eve," said Councilman Richardson.

"I wish to especially thank Ms. Barbara Drummond and her entire department for the outstanding job they did to make this event a reality. The Police and Fire Departments, along with a list of dedicated individuals too numerous to name, also made an outstanding contribution.

"With approximately $4,000,000 in free universal publicity, 15,000+ persons in Cooper Waterfront Park, Downtown restaurants, bars and hotels full, look for nothing less than a blockbuster event this New Year’s Eve."
