CORRECTION: SANITARY SEWER OVERFLOW REPORTED

Jun 29th, 2004

Whistler and Patricia Streets Health Advisory Issued

Tuesday, June 29, 2004, the Mobile County Health Department was notified by the Prichard Sewer System of two overflows that occurred at manholes midway down Wasson Ave. and at Patricia and Whistler Streets due to heavy rain. Approximately 2,000 gallons of untreated sewage was discharged at both the Wasson Ave and Patricia Street and the Whistler Street locations. The ultimate flow destination of these discharges is Gum Tree Branch.

Dr. Bernard Eichold, Health Officer, Mobile County Health Department, advises area residents to take precautions when using Gum Tree Branch for recreational purposes due to this release of untreated sewage. All seafood harvested in this general area should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. Individuals should wash hands after cleaning fish/seafood and before preparing food.
