“Cops on Top” to Benefit Special Olympics

Apr 22nd, 2009

Those making their weekend trip to the Walmart at 2500 Dawes Rd. will be eyed by Mobile Police Officers…from the roof! In conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Mobile Police Department is sponsoring “Cops on Top” to raise funds for the Special Olympics. Police officers will be perched atop the Walmart building from 5 p.m. Friday, April 24 until 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25. The fundraising goal is $5,000. Donations can be made on location or securely online by visiting www.firstgiving.com/mobilepolicedepartment.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas and is now the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for the Special Olympics. This year, police officers from across Alabama will be participating in the “Cops on Top” event as well. Major Kara Rose, who is spearheading the Mobile Police Department’s efforts says, “The Special Olympics is a wonderful organization and it is truly our pleasure to support such a worthy cause.”
