Combating Chronic Homelessness

Mobile Mayor Mike Dow will announce the creation of a Chronic Homeless Task Force, Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 1:30 in the Mayor's Conference Room on the 10th floor at Government Plaza.

Mayor Dow will be joined by members of the newly formed Task Force including Chairperson Ann Bedsole.

According to a report compiled by the Homeless Coalition of the Gulf Coast, there are about 350 homeless people in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. 186 are men, 101 are women and 63 are children or minors. Of that number, 103 men and 22 women live on the streets.

The Task Force will begin putting together a plan to end chronic homlessness, ask for community feed back, identify goals and then present a final document by October 2005.
