Clean Indoor Act & Smoking Ban in City Vehicles

Nov 17th, 2003

The Alabama Clean Indoor Air Act became effective September 1, 2003. That means smoking will be prohibited in all public places which include auditoriums, museums, government buildings and sports and recreational facilities. One portion of the Act permits the designation of a separate “area for the use of smokers”. However, a smoking area may not be designated in government buildings “unless the area is enclosed and well ventilated.

The City of Mobile's Public Works Department is installing the necessary "No Smoking" signs in all city buildings.

At the same time Mayor Mike Dow has signed an Executive Order banning smoking in all City Vehicles.
