City Requests Public Input as Construction Nears Completion on First Phase of Three Mile Creek Trail

Mobile, Ala. -- The City of Mobile needs citizens' help as construction nears completion on the first phase of the Three Mile Creek Trail. All are encouraged to take a brief survey to gather public input on site amenities and landscaping for the first phase of the trail. Options include Fitness equipment, trash receptacles, exercise stations, security, plantings, recycling stations and conservation areas.

The first phase begins along the north side of Three Mile Creek starting from Tricentennial Park and continuing on to West Ridge Road. Within a mile radius of the first phase, there are 69,000 residents, 900 businesses and 3 hospitals. The City broke ground on the a multi-model pathway last May. The new bridge, one component of the trail, is currently being installed today.

"I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to give feedback on this trail, especially those who live, work and play in this area," said Mayor Stimpson. "We will continue to seek public input as we begin building the next phases of the Three Mile Creek. Our goal is to link neighborhoods, businesses and residents across Mobile and educate our citizens on one of our precious waterways."

The new trail will feature a 10-foot wide multi-use walking and biking path, a fitness zone, enhanced landscaping, lighting, benches, a kayak launch and educational signage.

The City is now leading the planning and construction efforts that will use a phased approach that builds the trail in sections over time. The Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail Management Plan will be the framework that identifies next steps, cost estimates, community benefits, easement needs and logical project section priorities. The City is currently leveraging state and federal grants to fund the trail in entirety.

For individuals interested in becoming more involved, the Mobile Greenway Fund was established by The Community Foundation of South Alabama to receive charitable contributions and grants designated to support the City of Mobile's Greenway Initiative. About the Mobile Greenway:
The Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail is a part of a larger effort to transform the City of Mobile by creating a network of biking and pedestrian paths throughout the community. This project will ease traffic congestion, provide additional avenues for citizens and guests to exercise and increase property values. The overall vision is to create a 12 mile multi-purpose biking and walking path which will connect Langan Park to Downtown Mobile and Mobile Bay.
