City of Mobile to restore Langan Park playground

Mar 7th, 2016

Pending Council approval, the City of Mobile is giving the playground at Langan Park a makeover. The renovations include installing 5 new shade structures and two new climbers and repairing the broken playground equipment.

After a collaborative process with the City Council, Mayor Stimpson has submitted a $52,997 contract for their consideration and approval.

"Langan Park is an important part of our community's identity, and this will help bring it back to life," said Mayor Stimpson. "Our parks should draw us together in a tangible and meaningful way. I am committed to improving all of our parks to connect communities throughout the City of Mobile."

The proposal awards the contract to J.A. Dawson & Co., Inc. and upon City Council passage a notice to proceed will be given to the designer to begin work.

"I am excited to see these improvements come to fruition," said City Council President Gina Gregory. "We have needed shade structures to cover playground equipment for years, but until now the city had no money to install them. "

This announcement follows last week's approval of upgrades for two parks and three community centers. On Tuesday, the Mobile City Council approved contracts to design a new destination playground at Medal of Honor Park, install new dugouts and fencing at Theodore Park and purchase security systems for Harmon, Springhill and Dotch Community Centers.
