City of Mobile to build state of the art fire station

Apr 12th, 2016

The City of Mobile will build a new, state of the art fire station on Spring Hill Avenue to better serve citizens during times of emergency.

The new fire station will replace the Gus Rehm Fire Station that closed down more than a year ago due to safety reasons. The 60-year-old facility is now scheduled for demolition.

"We must address the condition and age of our fire stations," said Mayor Stimpson. "Instead of continuing to throw good money after bad on these facilities, we will begin to invest in new facilities. An investment in our first responders and the facilities they work in is an investment that will benefit all of our citizens."

After a collaborative process with the City Council, Mayor Stimpson has submitted a $145,000 contract for their consideration and approval. The proposal awards the contract to Watermark Design Group to design the new fire station. Mayor Stimpson is also sponsoring two resolutions to purchase the property and fund the construction of the new facility.

"Our citizens can have the assurance that this top notch facility will aid our firefighters to respond to emergencies swiftly and safely," said Mayor Stimpson. "We must provide our first responders with the tools and resources they need to protect our citizens' lives."
