City of Mobile to begin final phase on new football and soccer field at Maitre Park

Jan 17th, 2017

Mobile, Ala. -- The City of Mobile is putting the final touches on the new football and soccer combination field at Maitre Park. Work began last year to transform the outdated baseball diamond into a state of the art playing field.

"I am committed to improving our parks to connect communities throughout the City of Mobile," said Mayor Stimpson. "Our parks are an important part of neighborhood identity, and they must be brought back to life after years of neglect. I am grateful to the City Council for dedicating funding resources to this critical project."

This final phase will make the conversion of the field complete including drainage, grading and a new irrigation system to maintain the grass turf, field fencing and new goals.

"An investment in our parks is an investment in our community," said Councilman C.J. Small. "This is why we are doing everything we can to continue to revitalize these facilities."

The City Council unanimously approved the contract during Tuesday's regular meeting. Councilman Small and Mayor Stimpson were both sponsors of the resolution. The contractor J. Hunt Enterprises will begin work on the $175,000 project immediately.
