City of Mobile to adjust garbage and trash routes to increase efficiency

Apr 5th, 2016

Mobile, Ala. - The City of Mobile is adjusting garbage and trash pickup routes allowing crews to increase efficiency and ensure that all citizens will have their garbage and trash picked up on time on a regular basis.

The new routes will take advantage of the new equipment that decreases the mileage driven by the garbage fleet each week and reduces the trash work schedule from 6 to 5 days. Both of these adjustments will result in cost savings for the City.

For some residents, these adjustments will change the day of the week City crews pick up garbage and trash. Garbage is defined as general household waste and trash is defined as limbs, discarded furniture, appliances, and junk.

Approximately 90 homes in District 3 will have a new garbage pickup day. Some residents in Districts 2, 3, 4 and 6 will also have a new trash pickup day. All citizens affected by these changes will be directly notified by the City. A list of addresses of the affected households and maps of the new routes will also be provided on the City website.

The new routes will also alter the time of pick up in many areas, and all citizens are advised to move their garbage carts to the curb by 6:00 am. All changes will go into effect on Monday, April 18th.

These route adjustments follow the City’s decision to purchase eight new garbage trucks to improve services for citizens.

"One of my administration's top priorities is to improve the quality of life for all our citizens," said Mayor Stimpson. "Reliable and efficient garbage service is a core function of city government, and we're determined to do it better.”
