City of Mobile Responds to Icy Conditions

Jan 17th, 2018

Thanks to the hard work of our City employees and partnering agencies, we have cleared the streets of the City despite the icy conditions. Please be aware of black ice which looks black due to the color of road pavement. It is difficult to see and roads become very slippery when black ice forms. This is especially dangerous on roads with heavy tree coverage and shaded areas. If you are seeking shelter in the cold weather, our community centers are open to you. We will continue to stay vigilant to ensure everyone's safety." - Mayor Stimpson

City Efforts:
  • All community centers remain open today for anyone seeking shelter in the freezing temperatures.
  • Public Works crews dispersed sand on overpasses, streets and intersections as needed.
  • The City is coordinated with the Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama on its cold weather shelter at 1009 Dauphin Street.
  • The Salvation Army is offering hot meals and shelter.
  • Mobile Fire-Rescue has responded to 26 motor vehicle collisions since midnight.

Closures:
  • All garbage and trash routes are canceled today.
  • The make-up date for garbage and trash routes will be on Saturday, January 20th.
  • All recycling drop off locations are closed today.
