City of Mobile Prepares for Mardi Gras - FACT SHEET

As the birthplace of Mardi Gras, we are one of America's top destinations for global travelers." - Mayor StimpsonPublic Works:
- Installed 64 grates on storm drains to prevent litter from entering waterways
- Places 11,000 barricades downtown during the Carnival Season
- Cleans 10 miles of streets following every parade
- Collects cooking oil from vendors and transports it to MAWSS
- Provides port- o-lets one week before Mardi Gras Day
Mobile Fire and Rescue:
- Provides a fire truck following every parade including nights where there are back to back parades
- Offers emergency medical support by patrolling the perimeter on foot, bike and ambulance
- Responds to more than 160 medical assistance calls
Mobile Police Department:
- Mounted Unit assists with crowd control, crime prevention and response
- Traffic Unit directs traffic and provides security for parked vehicles
- Patrol Units patrol outside the parade route to ensure safety
- Uniformed officers and a team of plainclothes officers will respond to any suspicious activity
- Cyber-Intelligence Unit monitors cameras within the Mardi Gras parade route and responds to any criminal activity
Information Technology:
- Provides two live cameras on the Mardi Gras parade route that livestream parades from the City's website
GIS:
- Creates 6 interactive maps of the parade routes to be viewed on the City's Website
