City of Mobile launches online portal to submit ideas for long range plan

Apr 13th, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. - The City of Mobile has launched an online portal to submit ideas for its comprehensive, long range plan. Citizens can submit an unlimited amount of ideas at www.mapformobile.org up until April 29 when the portal closes.

The site includes a map feature where users can select the "best" and "worst" areas of Mobile, and explain in their own words why they chose those specific locations. Users can also view a composite map of all the flagged locations.

"I encourage everyone to tell us their best ideas for Mobile," said Mayor Sandy Stimpson. "We want to give those who aren't able to attend a workshop the opportunity to share their vision for our city."

On March 30, Mayor Stimpson hosted a "Focus on the Future" community workshop where more than 500 citizens came together to share their ideas for Mobile. A second workshop is planned for May.

The workshops are part of a community-driven process known as the "Map for Mobile" which will make recommendations for preservation, revitalization and growth across the city.

This is the first time a long range plan has encompassed all areas of the city and the first time in 20 years a comprehensive plan has been conducted for Mobile.
