Apr 24th, 2015
MOBILE, Ala. - The City of Mobile launched its account on Nextdoor, a social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.Led by Mayor Sandy Stimpson, this integration with Nextdoor will enable the City of Mobile to build stronger, safer communities with the help of Mobile residents. The city will be able to post information such as important news, services, programs, free events and emergency notifications to Nextdoor neighborhoods within the city.
"Mobile is an innovative and resourceful city. Joining Nextdoor is another way to make Mobile an even better place to call home," said Mayor Stimpson. "This innovative social network gives residents more avenues to easily and effectively connect with city departments and each other about the things that matter most to their community."
Nextdoor has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for Mobile residents. More than 85 neighborhoods, representing more than 60 percent of the City of Mobile, have launched Nextdoor websites. The Mayor's Office joins the Mobile Police Department in adopting Nextdoor to better communicate with Mobile residents.
Mobile residents can use Nextdoor to create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets.
Nextdoor is free for residents and the city. Each Mobile neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Neighborhoods have the ability to establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website.
