City of Mobile Employees Fighting Terrorism

Apr 15th, 2004

While some troops are coming home from fighting the War on Terrorism many men and women including City of Mobile employees remain deployed-thousands of miles away from their families.

There are currently 42 City of Mobile employees on Active Military Leave. 25 are Police Officers; 12 are Firefighters; 3 are in the Public Works Department; 1 is in Urban Development; and 1 works in the Tennis Center. There have been up to 54 city employees on leave since the war began.

To try to make their absence a little easier on family members, the City of Mobile implemented an Active Leave/supplemental Military Pay Provision. Employees are eligible for this pay if their base monthly Military Pay is less than their base monthly City of Mobile Pay. From October 2003 through March 2004 eleven employees have received a monthly check for Military Pay Differential.
