City of Mobile creates interactive parade map for Mardi Gras
Feb 12th, 2015
MOBILE, Ala. - The City of Mobile GIS Department and Samford University teamed up to create an interactive Mardi Gras parade map for revelers to use on Fat Tuesday. The map not only reveals the parade route but also gauges where each parade will be at a specific time and its direction.Beginning on Tuesday at 10:30 am with the Order of Athena, the map follows the route of each parade up until the end of Order of Myths that evening. Additionally, you can follow the Knights of Revelry, King Felix, Comic Cowboys and the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association.
"I am always amazed with our GIS department, but I especially admire this unique partnership with the students at Samford University," said Mayor Stimpson. "This project exemplifies how to find innovative ways to create user friendly products for our citizens and visitors."
In addition to the interactive map, the City of Mobile provides two web cams during Mardi Gras at peak intersections on the parade route.
