City of Mobile Amnesty Program Enters Final Week

Jul 23rd, 2007

Defendants waiting to take advantage of the City of Mobile’s Amnesty Program are running out of time. It will soon be too late for them to simply pay off an outstanding fine and avoid going to jail. Beginning Monday, July 23, 2007, there will only be seven business days left until the deadline on Tuesday, July 31. When the deadline passes, Mobile Police officers will be stepping up their efforts to track down those who owe the outstanding fines and take them to jail.

“We’ve made a lot of progress, but we want this final week to be the busiest of the month,” says Mayor Sam Jones. “Our goal is to collect the $10 million that is owed to the City of Mobile.”

To find out if your name is on the list of eligible defendants, you can go to the reference desk at any branch of the Mobile Public Library (except the Saraland branch), the information desk in Government Plaza, or online at www.cityofmobile.org. If your name appears on the list, the amount of money you owe will accompany it. To pay the fine, you can drop it off at Mobile Police Headquarters, any police precinct, or you can mail the payment to:
