City Government Closings Tuesday, Jan 28, 2014
Jan 28th, 2014
All City Employees,Due to the approach of Winter Storm Leon, and in an abundance of caution, Mayor Stimpson has decided to close City Government for Tuesday, January 28 with the exception of emergency personnel who shall report to work as directed by their supervisors. The Mayor will make a decision around 12:00pm/noon tomorrow about the status of City Government's operation for Wednesday.
Current indications from the National Weather Service show that freezing rain will begin tomorrow morning around 3:00am just north of I-10.
For citizens in the City of Mobile, Garbage and Trash will not be picked up tomorrow or Wednesday, garbage will be picked-up on Saturday and trash will be made up during the next scheduled pick-up.
Important points that I encourage all Citizens of Mobile and beyond to consider:
1. Assuming icy conditions, please Do NOT drive! We need folks to stay off the roads for your safety and the safety of our community and first responders.
2. Sanded roads add traction to our roads but do not fully mitigate the dangers of ice, and often ice is not able to be seen.
3. Having a four-Wheel drive vehicle does not make it safe to drive on the roads. Please stay home and off the roads.
4. For those in need of shelter due to the inclement weather, please contact the Red Cross or Salvation Army or a local shelter for assistance.
5. Alabama Power, MAWSS and Mobile Gas have safety tips and recommendations on how to prepare for the incoming weather, please take the time to visit their websites and take the proper precautions.
6. ALDOT will update their website regularly with road closures.
7. In the event that the temperature drops well-below freezing, the City will work to respond to those citizens in need of warmth and shelter and utilize Community Centers to provide relief for those in need.
The bottom line is that we all need to be CAUTIOUS, SMART and SAFE. As a region, we fully realize that we should never underestimate or challenge Mother Nature.
