City Council Approves Unity Point Park Funding

Feb 3rd, 2009

The Mobile City Council has approved a contract for the construction of Unity Point Park. The green space will occupy the triangle formed at the intersection of Broad Street, St. Anthony Street, and Spring Hill Avenue.

Unity Point Park showcases the work of former Mayor Joseph Langan and civil rights leader John LeFlore. They worked together to advance the rights of black residents while keeping Mobile relatively free of race-based violence that affected other southern cities.

The park will feature statues of Mayor Langan and Mr. LeFlore surrounded by a fountain and pool, sidewalks, trees, and landscaping. The park is part of the larger Bring Back Broad Street project that improved a long stretch of Broad south of Government Street.
