City Assesses Damage After Tornados

City of Mobile crews have been responding constantly since severe weather caused tornado damage to parts of the city.

Approximately 500 to 600 trees were lost on city property and more than 1,500 on private property.

Mobile Police has closed the following roads/intersections due to impassable roads. These roads have downed trees and power lines. These roads are a danger to the public and should not be approached.

• Dauphin Street, between South and Carlen Streets
• Old Shell Road, between Kenneth and Tuscaloosa Streets
• All streets surrounding Murphy High School

More lane closures will be necessary as crews move in to restore power.

Mobile Fire Rescue sent multiple units to the affected area in Midtown Mobile. The Firefighters and Firemedics spread out through the neighborhoods checking for people that might have been injured or trapped in debris. One call for service included a family suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a generator being used inside the house. Always remember, if you lose power, and are using a generator, keep it outside. No deaths were reported due to the tornado.

Alabama Power crews have restored power to about 20,000 customers since yesterday. More crews are coming into Mobile to assist with the restoration of power to the more than 4,600 who are still without power today.
