City Announces Completion of Emergency Coordination Center
Sep 12th, 2013
With hurricane season ending in a few months, Mayor Sam Jones unveiled the city’s new Emergency Coordination Center, a facility designed to keep the city operating in the event of a catastrophic event.
“If the city could no longer operate from Government Plaza, due to a catastrophic event, we’ll have a location to keep the city moving forward,” said Mayor Sam Jones. “The ECC does not replace the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency. We will still have a presence there, but this facility will allow us to continue operating and delivering services to citizens.”
Operational stations at the ECC, formerly a military armory, will include such departments as:
• Public Works;
• Mobile Fire;
• Mobile Police;
• Urban Department;
• Mobile 311;
• Finance;
• Payroll;
• Purchasing.
The work on the ECC was done in-house with city staffers. The facility has also been programmed to interface with the National Weather Channel and other emergency networks.
