Mar 23rd, 2005

MOBILE, ALABAMA (March 10, 2005) - Camp Seale Harris, Alabama's children's diabetes education program founded in Mobile, has been awarded "The Sadie Twilley Scholarship." This generous gift will assist children between the ages of 6 - 13 who attend Camp Seale Harris's educational camping programs for the next 10 years. This scholarship fund is a tribute to Mrs. Sadie Twilley, who was a resident of Theodore, Alabama.

Mrs. Twilley was deeply impassioned with a desire to help children overcome the difficulties that they face every day as they struggle to control their diabetes. She recognized that diabetes education, encouragement and motivation are essential to a child's success in the management of this difficult health condition. The mission at Camp Seale Harris is to motivate children with diabetes and their families through educational, social, and recreational experiences in a safe and nurturing environment. Camp Seale Harris has been providing children with diabetes a fun-filled educational camping program since Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Eichold founded it in 1947. A wide assortment of recreational activities is offered, including, swimming, tubing, horseback, canoeing, fishing, riflery, archery, sports and games, rappelling, arts and crafts, dances, zip-line rides, playground, and various evening program activities. More importantly, intensive diabetes management techniques are taught during daily diabetes education seminars. All activities are designed to encourage a positive approach to living with diabetes.

The Sadie Twilley Scholarship will provide four full or eight half scholarships for Mobile County area children aver the next 10 years. Children between the ages of 6 – 13 who have been recently (within the past 2 years) diagnosed with diabetes are eligible to apply.
