Camera system: Driving force behind City of Mobile's vehicle safety program

Mobile, Ala.- The City of Mobile's camera system is the driving force behind its vehicle safety program. Solid Waste, Trash, Park and Public Building vehicles are now equipped with the DriveCam equipment to monitor drivers' performance and other activity on the road.All City drivers are coached on the benefits of the equipment to improve their driving skills and reduce risk. Since the new equipment was installed, the City's near collisions have decreased 50 percent and risky driving behavior has improved almost 40 percent.
"This program has drastically improved our vehicle safety program," said Mayor Stimpson. "The number of accidents has plummeted which is a testament to our employees' drive and perseverance."
Safe drivers were honored this week during the Driver Recognition Event. Drivers are recognized based on their driving records as recorded on the DriveCam. The following City Employees were recognized.
