Calling All Oyster Shuckers - Let the Competition Begin

Test your skills at shucking oyster as the Organized Seafood Association of Alabama teams up with Wintzell’s Oyster House for the 1st Annual Oyster Shucking Contest, January 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.

Contestants will compete against each other and the clock to shuck oysters as fast as they can. The winner will earn a chance to compete in the 6th annual International Boston Seafood Show’s Oyster Shucking Contest, including an all expense paid trip to Boston, Massachusetts March 11 – 13, 2012. Contestants must be Alabama residents or represent an Alabama Company. There is a $25.00 entry fee and the deadline to enter is January 11, 2012. The competition will be held at Wintzell’s Oyster House, 605 Dauphin Street, in downtown Mobile. Registration forms are available by calling 251-824-1672, or email at organized@centurytel.net.

“Alabama has more than 50 miles of coastline, offering some of the nation’s finest seafood, says Ernie Anderson, President of the Organized Seafood Association of Alabama. “This is a fun event and great way to highlight one of our area’s abundant seafood offerings.”

According to the National Marine Fisheries Service, the Alabama seafood industry contributes about 270 million dollars annually to the economy, and supports more than 11,000 jobs. Their efforts are now visible to all at the newly-launched website www.eatalabamawildseafood.com.
