Botanical Gardens to undergo $150,000 makeover

Mayoral Action:
The Mobile Botanical Gardens is set to undergo a $150,000 transformational makeover this year through funds from the City of Mobile's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

Projects:

  • Renovate Main Parking Plaza: $36,200
  • MarketPlace hardscape: $20,000
  • Drainage: $19,600
  • Perimeter fencing: $20,700
  • Lower Parking improvements: $ 9,000
  • Electrical upgrades: $ 8,140
  • Pedestrian walkways: $17,800
  • Arbor detail at entry building: $ 5,000
  • Contingency: $ 9,060
  • Project Administration: $ 4,500

Parking:

  • Expand main parking area to accommodate more parking spaces.
  • Construct a pedestrian walkway for visitors to access the Gardens conveniently and safely.
  • Improve drainage across the renovated parking plaza.
  • Add new features to the lower parking area to improve its utility and visual appeal.
  • Install new sidewalks.

MarketPlace:

  • Increase the public access to the central promenade
  • Improve the drainage of the MarketPlace.

Traffic Circle:

  • Redesign the traffic circle adjacent to the main buildings.
  • Relieve congestion at this important juncture.
  • Enhance the public's experience during events.

Great Lawn:

  • Upgrade electrical capabilities including new light poles to accommodate events.
  • Install a perimeter fence to ensure safety.
  • Construct a pedestrian walkway to connect visitors to the garden entrance.

Arbor Detail

  • Design an arbor detail at the location of the future pigeoneire.
