Big Pour is a Big Success

Mobile's Big Pour at the RSA Battle House and Office Tower is one for the record books. The concrete pour began at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2003 and ended only after pouring 8,476 cubic yards of concrete, on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
About 300 workers were involved in the massive undertaking.

Here are some interesting statistics about the Big Pour:
  • 8,476 cubic yards would equal about 33 miles of 4 inch wide sidewalk.
  • The concrete weighs 33,200,000 pounds.
  • Reinforcing steel weighs 4,600,000 pounds
  • At the peak about 75 concrete trucks per hour were at the site.
  • No injuries or accidents occurred on the site.


Local companies that were involved in the big Pour included; Marshall A. McLeod PLS; Thompson Engineering Co.; Bayou Concrete; Pope Engineering; Craftsman Concrete Pumping; Eagle Rear; and Burns Dewatering.

The core and shell portion of the project will begin at the first of the year.
