Be the First to Tour the Reopened Battle House Hotel

May 10th, 2007

The Big Band sound blared from radios in the ‘60s. Swing and ballroom dancing were the cool moves of the era. Vintage automobiles were the classic rides.

A trip down memory lane will be the theme of the celebration marking the grand re-opening of the historic Battle House Hotel on Saturday, May 12, 2007.

Officials with RSA and the City of Mobile are encouraging citizens to come out early for public tours of the hotel. Tours will be offered from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. However, if citizens are unable to tour the hotel on Saturday, a schedule for additional tours will be provided.

Streets surrounding the historic hotel, which dominated the social scene in downtown Mobile for over a century, will be lined with over 40 vintage vehicles from the Deep South Region of the Antique Auto Club of America, Old South Antique Car Club, Past Time Cruisers, and Mobile Police and Fire-Rescue Departments.

The corner of St. Francis and Royal Streets will come alive with the big band sound of the Carnival Band and lively dancing from the Brandy Brown Dance Studio, the Dance Center, E.B. Coleman Orchestra and the Excelsior Band.
