Aug 31st, 2004

Plans are underway to begin the new once per week automated garbage collection program in the city’s districts 2,3 & 5 all east of interstate 65 on Monday, September 20, 2004. To make sure all residents are aware of the change, their councilmen are holding community meetings to discuss the program and to answer any questions residents may have.

District 2 Councilman Thomas Sullivan will hold meetings:
  • Tuesday, September 7, 2004, 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Sullivan Community Center, 351 North Catherine Street.
  • Thursday, September 9, 2004, 6:30 p.m. at the Taylor Park Recreation Center, 1050 Baltimore Street.
  • Monday, September 13, 2004, 6:00 p.m. at the James Seals Community Center, 540 Texas Street.

District 3 Councilman Clinton Johnson will hold meetings:
  • Tuesday, August 31, 2004, 6:00 p.m. at the Plateau Community Center, 850 Edwards Street.
  • Thursday, September 2, 2004, 6:30 p.m. at the Harmon Recreation Center, 1611 Belfast Street.

Public Services staff will be present at all community meetings to answer questions about the transition from manual to automated garbage collection.

Notices of the change in collection, and the new date their garbage will be picked up have already been mailed to residents in the districts. Their new carts are being delivered through September 17, 2004 with instructions on care and use, along with a reminder NOT to use the new carts until their new collection program begins.
