Automated Garbage Program Expands

The City of Mobile's new automated garbage collection program will expand to districts 2,3, and a portion of 5 beginning September 21, 2004. All of these areas are east of I-65. Delivery of the new garbage carts to these residents will begin August 16, 2004.

Wednesday, August 11, 2004 postcards will be mailed to residents who live in these districts explaining that they will soon receive their new garbage cart, the day the new service will begin, and their current twice weekly garbage collection will be reduced to once per week. The postcard will advise residents if they have not received their new cart by September 17, 2004 to call the city's Action Center at 208-7999.

When the carts are delivered, there will be a brochure attached, reminding residents not to use the new cart until the start date. There will also be information on the use and care of the new garbage cart.

Residents are reminded to have their garbage carts on the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of collection and to remove them by 7 p.m. For more information about what should or should not be placed in the new carts, go the City of Mobile website at www.cityofmobile.org and click on garbage collection, or call the Action Center.
