ATTENTION VANDALS: Stop Stealing Manhole Covers

The theft rate for manhole covers and storm drainage grates is escalating in Mobile, causing thousands of dollars in damage and leaving motorists at risk. Vandals are stealing the covers and grates, which cost hundreds of dollars a piece to replace, and selling them at metal scrap yards for just a few dollars.

The Mobile Police Department is asking the public to call 911 if they see someone who is not a city or utility worker tampering with manhole covers and grates. If anyone sees a vacant manhole or storm drain that has not been flagged/covered/barricaded, it can be reported to Mobile 311.
